Communities in Schools is asking for donations of new or gently-used shoes of all sizes and for all ages. The goal is to collect more shoes than the 600 pairs collected last year as the need is even greater. “Last year CIS served more than 6,300 kids in the seven area school districts,” said Mary Barr, executive director for CIS. “We are doing all we can to provide food support, clothing when necessary and other assistance to meet the basic needs of these children to get them on the path to graduation and a healthy future.”
Shoes can be dropped off through Saturday at Schlotzsky’s restaurants in Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton and Temple; First National Bank locations in Killeen, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove; Union State Bank locations in Killeen, Harker Heights and Florence; and the CIS Central Office, 4520 E. Central Texas Expressway, Suite 106, in Killeen. Monetary donations will be accepted as well.
