Killeen Independent School District Superintendent John Craft and Director of School Safety John Dye received plaques from the Bell County Commissioners Court during a school boar meeting Tuesday night.
Surrounded by county commissioners, Bell County Judge Jon Burrows made the presentation.
Burrows read a proclamation thanking the school district for stepping up to help prepare the former Fairway Middle School to house more than 400 evacuees from Hurricane Harvey.
KISD career and technical student Deandre Johnson was recognized by the KISD board for receiving the Congressional Achievement Award for Outstanding Student in Career and Technical Education. Johnson was also elected as the Skills USA vice president for the state of Texas for the 2017–2018 school year. Additionally, Johnson was selected to attend the Skills USA National Leadership Skills Conference.
Brenda Drawdy, KISD career and technical education teacher, was honored after having received the Texas Industrial Vocational Association and Iota Lamda Sigma Outstanding Trade & Industry Teacher of Texas Award.
Iota Lambda Sigma is an honorary professional society that recognizes individuals for excellence in their various endeavors in workforce education and development.
Recipients of the Texas Association of School Board 2017 Media Honor Roll award received their certificates during the KISD board meeting.
Honorees were Miok Duranski, editor of the Korean Weekly News; KWTX, represented by vice president and general manager Mike Wright; and KXXV, represented by reporter Brittney Verner.
