Three members of the Killeen Independent School District’s board of trustees are facing re-election this May.

The board unanimously called for an election for the three seats at its regular meeting Tuesday night. The election will take place May 11, in conjunction with other state, county and municipal races.

The three sitting board members up for re-election this year are president Shelley Wells, Corbett Lawler and Susan Jones.

Wells is a former KISD teacher and small-business owner. She has been a member of the board since 2007. She is married to former Killeen Councilman Kenny Wells.

Lawler spent more than 39 years as an educator in the Killeen district, with 29 of them as a campus principal. He served as principal at Killeen High School from 1980 to 2002. He was first elected to the board in 2010.

Jones was first elected in May 2011 for an unexpired term. She is currently employed as a mortgage production manager for Extraco’s West Bell County sector.

The seven members of the district’s board of trustees serve at-large and are elected to three-year terms. Last May, voters re-elected member Minerva Trujillo, as well as the board’s newest member, JoAnn Purser.

The deadline to file for the election is March 1. As of Tuesday no candidates, including the sitting board members up for re-election, filed to run.

The KISD school board election will coincide with an election for Central Texas College’s board of trustees.

The terms of board chair Mari Meyers, board secretary Jimmy Towers and board vice chair Elwood Shemwell expire this year.
