Members of the Killeen Independent School District’s board of trustees gathered Monday afternoon to canvass the vote for the May 11 election.

Board members Ken Ray, JoAnn Purser, Minerva Trujillo and Terry Delano met at the district’s main administrative office on W.S. Young Drive to finalize the vote totals from the election.

After the count, both incumbent board members Shelley Wells and Susan Jones remain the winners of their respective races. The vote total changed by one vote due to a provisional ballot cast at a polling place in Harker Heights, Killeen ISD officials said.

“We had to make sure the provisional ballot was valid before it could be counted,” said Kirk Thomas, the district’s election agent.

That extra vote extended Jones’ final margin over her challenger, local businessman John Gilmore, from 14 to 15 votes. The vote also extended Wells’ total vote from 1,286 to 1,287 in her victory over challenger Lan Carter and bumped up Lalwer’s total vote count to 1,752.

At today’s meeting, the board is expected to certify the election results, swear in the election’s winners and vote for officers.
