The Killeen Independent School District bond steering committee has a lot of ground to cover at its first meeting Thursday night.

The committee is charged with making recommendations to the KISD board of trustees about the upcoming proposed bond election, tentatively scheduled for May 5, 2018.

The total price tag for all the projects under consideration is close to $500 million; however, it’s unclear what the bond amount will be.

Those projects include new elementary and middle schools. A new high school estimated to cost $173 million, and a new athletic stadium priced at about $50 million will also be considered by the committee.

Renovations and repairs to older district schools will be discussed at Thursday night's meeting, which is open to the public.

The public will learn which individuals, from an invited pool of 104 prospective members, have agreed to serve on the committee.

The meeting will take place at Harker Heights High School, 1001 Farm-to-Market 2410, at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Entry will be by the school’s front doors, on the west side of the building.
