Three Killeen Independent School District high school students were honored today for their work both inside and outside the classroom.

The students were given awards and scholarships by the Exchange Club of Killeen during a short ceremony this morning, as part of the organization’s annual “Student of the Year” awards.

This year, the club’s award for female Student of the Year went to Harker Heights High School senior Merissa Martinez. Brandon Sullivan, a senior at Killeen High School, received the male Student of the Year award.

The Exchange Club of Killeen also presented Killeen High School senior Christine Page with its Accepting a Challenge of Excellence, or ACE award. That award is given to students who overcome personal hardships to make graduation, with the aspiration of attending college.

All three students were awarded with certificates, as well as scholarships for $1,000. The club also entered their names to compete for additional scholarship from the Exchange Club at the regional level.
