Motorists will want to watch out for students walking or biking to school after an extended winter break.

Students in the Killeen Independent School District will return to class Tuesday.

Copperas Cove students resume classes Wednesday.

Both districts started the winter break with early dismissal Dec. 15.

The dates of winter break matched Fort Hood’s “block leave,” which ran from Dec. 16 to Jan. 1.

Drivers will need to be vigilant when passing through school zones, slowing down and watching for crossing guards. Cell phone use is prohibited in school zones, to reduce distractions.

Drivers also need to stop for school buses loading and unloading students in the morning and afternoon.
