The Killeen school board is expected to meet today to canvass votes from the May 6 school board election.

Killeen Independent School District board of trustees newcomer Carlyle Walton and incumbent Marvin Rainwater were elected, according to the unofficial election results.

Walton will replace Terry Delano — the board’s president who decided not to run for re-election — while Rainwater will retain his seat on the board.

According to district policy, only two board members are required to be present during the canvassing meeting.

According to KISD officials, board Secretary Minerva Trujillo along with board members Susan Jones and JoAnn Purser are expected to attend.

A full recount of votes is not a requirement. However, a partial manual recount has been completed in three precincts.

The canvassed results are expected to be presented by Kirk Thomas, KISD’s election administrator.

The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. at the district office at 200 N. W.S. Young Drive.

Rainwater and Walton are scheduled to be sworn in at the May 23 school board meeting.
