Two local school districts plan to feed thousands of area students beginning this month though their summer nutrition programs.

Both the Killeen Independent School District and the Copperas Cove Independent School District will offer two free meals a day to children during the respective programs.

The Killeen district will serve the breakfast and lunch at 16 campuses locations in Killeen, Fort Hood, Harker Heights and Nolanville beginning June 10. This year, the district expects to serve more than 11,300 meals a day at the height of the summer meal program.

The Copperas Cove District will serve free meals at Copperas Cove Junior High School and Hettie Halstead Elementary School beginning June 11.
