A new Killeen High School curriculum piloted at the school this year asks students to think about their future goals and careers.

Students in the Advancement Via Individual Determination program will take part in the curriculum for sophomores and juniors designed by the educational organization Road Trip Nation, best known for the PBS television show.

The AVID program recruits students and assists them in preparing for college. This year, Killeen High School has 296 AVID students.

Road Trip Nation encourages students to explore future career opportunities based on their passions and interests. The curriculum will include hands-on projects

designed to get students thinking about their goals after high school and college, according to KHS officials.

“We want kids to know that they have choices,” said Remy Godfrey, the AVID coordinator.

“There are a lot of options for them, and we want them to start thinking about what those are.”

A presentation Monday morning kicked off the new curriculum.

Representatives from Road Trip Nation stopped by the school to talk with students about how to turn their hobbies and interests into careers.

After the presentation, the students were invited to tour the “Big Green RV,” a vehicle featured in the “Road Trip Nation” television show.

Monday’s assembly was just the beginning. Campus Institutional Specialist Christina Harris said the students this year will use the Road Trip Nation curriculum, including talking to people who work in the students’ fields of interest.

“As part of the curriculum, they will be going out and finding someone in the community to interview about an area they are interested in,” Harris said.
