Students were texting their parents Thursday morning about a rumored threat of a shooting at Shoemaker High School, but their concerns were sparked by a rumor that proved to be false, a school official said.

The rumor of a safety threat at Shoemaker was "completely false," according to Terry Abbott, KISD chief communications officer. "No issue there today."

The Killeen Police Department was not involved in the rumor response, according to Ofelia Miramontez, KPD spokeswoman. "If it happened on school property, the Killeen school district police would handle it."

Melissa Garcia, parent of a Shoemaker student, received texts from her daughter and had been concerned. Her husband heard an incorrect rumor there was an active shooter at Shoemaker.
