Clouds seemed to hang lower over the Destiny World Outreach Center on Saturday morning as though the heavens were grieving.

More than 100 friends and family members gathered at the church to say their final goodbyes to 21-year-old Kirsten Nicole Farr.

The young woman, known to many as “Nikki,” was fatally stabbed in the parking lot of the Killeen IHOP on Feb. 23. An ex-boyfriend was arrested and is a suspect in her slaying.

Among the family members who spoke at her funeral — including one of her six sisters and one of her 11 brothers and her mother, Rosalinda Wilcox — her father, Anthony Farr, delivered a speech of encouragement and anti-violence to the group who gathered in remembrance.

“She was a happy person who cared about others, and she was always smiling. Our daughter was also a private person and was quiet about a lot of things,” her father said.

“People need to speak up and let people know what’s going on. Enough is enough. We have to stop all this violence and love one another.”

Older brother Nicholas Farr also reminisced and shared stories about his sister.

“I’ve never been one to be afraid to speak in front of people, but today is a little bit different,” he said with a shaky voice.

“She reminded me how important family is. Family was everything to her, including her son. We will make sure he grows up to be the man she wanted him to become.”

Her 3-year-old son now is forced to grow up without his mother.

“She did whatever she had to do to protect her son and to give him everything he deserved,” Anthony Farr said about his daughter’s motherly instinct.

“She loved spending time with her son even when she was tired after work.”

During the service, family members read several poems.

A benefit for her family and son was held at the American Legion in Harker Heights on Saturday night.

She was buried at Killeen Memorial Park.
