The Armed Services YMCA will fill the Killeen Civic and Conference Center with the “sounds of Christmas” with its 12th annual Festival of Trees event Friday.
Tony Mino, executive director, said the event has grown every year from 80 attendees in its first year to 1,000 expected to attend this year.
“It’s just a lot of fun,” he said. “We have a live band, appetizers, a dinner buffet and then people can purchase tickets to win one of the Christmas trees that we decorated and put presents under. It’s a big party.”
Mino said the fundraiser features 12 decorative Christmas trees, and attendees can purchase tickets to win the ornaments on the tree as well as the gifts underneath it.
He said the trees are themed as well. Some of them cater to young boys and girls, teens, the outdoorsman, the entertainment enthusiast and couples.
“The men’s tree may have different power tools under it,” he said. “While the teen tree may have things like mini-iPads and speakers. Things that teens would like.”
The event also features live and silent auctions.
Mino said funds raised through the event go to help with financial assistance for child care and other programs.
He said the goal for this year’s event is to raise more than $70,000.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.
