A family of four was displaced after their home in southwest Killeen sustained major fire damage early Monday morning.

Killeen Fire Department Chief Jerry D. Gardner said Red Cross officials were notified to help find shelter for the family. The rear of their home, located in the 2800 block of Bigleaf Drive, sustained severe damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Killeen Fire Marshal James Chism issued a press release Monday asking for anyone with information about the fire to call his office.

Gardner said the home is uninhabitable at this time; however, he said the home may be salvageable.

"It's not a total loss, but there's some pretty substantial damage to the rear of the structure," Gardner said.

No one was seriously injured in the fire. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene, according to Chism.

Firefighters responded to a call of a house fire just before 3 a.m. Monday. As they arrived, flames and heavy smoke could be seen from about a half-mile away on Watercrest Drive, Gardner said.

About 20 firefighters responded to the scene.

Anyone with information about the fire should either call the Killeen Fire Marshal's Office at (254) 501-3582 or Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS (8477) or go online at www.killeencrimestoppers.com or text the word KILLEEN and the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).

A tip leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
