Killeen firefighters responded to a fire early Friday morning at a local automotive paint shop.

The Killeen Fire Department was called to respond to a blaze at Tasco Auto Color in the 800 block of Highland Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. this morning. Killeen Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Hawthorne said it took about two hours to put the fire out. Firefighters had to wear masks and other protective equipment due to fumes from the burning chemicals inside the the building. No injuries were reported.

A statement from the City of Killeen issued this morning stated the water used to extinguish the fire washed paint products into a concrete drainage culvert in Marlboro Park.

Environmental Services personnel are coordinating remediation, according to the statement, and Marlboro Park is temporarily closed while cleanup efforts are underway.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
