COPPERAS COVE — New tenants filed permits for spaces in the Five Hills shopping center and the developer said two pad site leases may start construction soon.
In late February, the city issued four commercial remodel permits to contractors for stores in the 3000 block of East U.S. Highway 190 — the two buildings constructed by Endeavor Real Estate next to H-E-B Plus.
Those businesses include Sports Clips, Eye City, Nail Salon & Spa and an AT&T, according to the permits.
Among the largest of those tenants is AT&T, with about 4,000 square feet, Daniel Campbell, a spokesman for Endeavor Real Estate, said Friday.
Representatives from AT&T declined to comment about the new facility and whether the current Cove location will move or if both locations would remain open.
Campbell said Endeavor expects a mid-May opening for the AT&T store at Five Hills.
Other tenants couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.
As construction continues, Campbell said about 14,000 square feet, or about 40 percent, remains to be leased in the buildings by H-E-B.
“We are looking for a really unique restaurant to locate into those buildings, and we think that will help attract other tenants,” Campbell said. “We have designed a courtyard between the two buildings, and hopefully, that would make a good patio for a restaurant.”
To the west of H-E-B, two commercial pad sites are about to enter lease agreements and construction should start soon, Campbell told the city council earlier this week.
Campbell didn’t name the franchises, but a map acquired from the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation denotes a Panda Express and a Chick-fil-A as coming to those sites.
Campbell said the development is on track and Endeavor will continue to develop Five Hills as the market dictates. “The reception that we have from the tenant retailers has been great,” he said. “A lot of these tenants have looked at (this area) before, but now with a brand new H-E-B, it is hitting a lot more tenants’ radar.”
