HARKER HEIGHTS – The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce is less than a month away from hosting its first food and wine festival.
The Central Texas Food and Wine Festival will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Harker Heights Community Park on Farm-to-Market 2410.
"We sent out 110 invitations to wineries in the area," chamber president Bill Kozlik said. "We have asked our chamber members also that do food and catering to attend."
Numerous wineries have committed by sending in applications, and more have given verbal confirmations, Kozlik said.
A few micro-breweries said they will attend with speciality beers. About eight local restaurants and caterers have given verbal commitments.
Kozlik hopes more will continue to register to participate in the event.
"By the first week of September, we should have a pretty good idea of who is coming," Kozlik said.
The goal is to get about 40 vendors promoting the sale of their wine and food, chamber board chairman Ted Smith said earlier this month.
Residents can come out and enjoy not only the food and wine but also the music, Kozlik said. The chamber has booked six bands, one to perform every hour.
"It should be a nice and relaxing day," Kozlik said.
The chamber hopes 1,200 people will attend the event.
Advance tickets are $30. Tickets at the gate will be $35.
"We think this will bring people into Harker Heights," Smith said earlier this month. "We will bring people to see what a great city we have."
