Fort Hood officials ID soldier found unresponsive

FORT HOOD — Post officials late Monday released the name of a soldier found unresponsive Dec. 21 in his barracks.

Spc. Ryan Jeffrey McDermot, 26, of Newington, N.H., entered active-duty service in July 2010 as a UH-60 helicopter repairer.

He was assigned to the 2nd Batalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since March 2012.

McDermot deployed to Afghanistan from June 2011 to March 2012.

His awards and decorations include an Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and NATO Medal.
