Fort Hood officials release name of solider who died in Arizona

Fort Hood officials released Friday the name of a soldier who died Wednesday in Tucson, Ariz., from an apparent gunshot wound. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Pfc. Marty Maiden, 20, of Tucson, entered active-duty service in July 2012 as an M1 Abrams tank system maintainer. He was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since March 2013.

Maiden deployed to Afghanistan in July 2013 and was home on emergency leave when the incident occurred.

Maiden’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and NATO Medal.
