As news of a mass shooting on an East Coast military installation spread this morning, the security posture at Fort Hood has not changed and remains vigilant, Fort Hood officials said.

Thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their family and friends, according to a Fort Hood spokesperson.

The official said it is inappropriate to comment further at this time on the events unfolding in Washington, D.C., following this morning’s mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

At least 12 people are dead and several more are wounded as the result of a shooting this morning at the Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters in Washington, D.C. One shooter has been killed and police are searching for two more possible shooters. The suspects are a white male wearing a tan military-style uniform with short sleeves, a military beret and a hand gun and a black male between 40 and 50 years old wearing an olive drab military-style uniform and carrying a long gun, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.
