BELTON – A Fort Hood soldier could face the next 99 years in prison based on charges that he broke into a Harker Heights woman's home and sexually assaulted her.

A Bell County grand jury indicted Jonathan Matthew Baker, 19, on charges of burglarizing a habitation with the intent to commit sexual assault and sexual assault, on Nov. 15.

Baker entered the woman's home by breaking through a window and removing the screen, according to the arrest affidavit. The victim said Baker forced her to perform a sex act, according to the affidavit.

The victim also reported her credit card and other property were stolen by the man.

The victim's stolen credit card was used at a Cefco gas station after the incident, according to the affidavit. Harker Heights police obtained a photograph of the transaction from the store.

An officer said he conducted a traffic stop on the man in the photo recently and identified him as Baker. The victim viewed the photo of Baker in a photo lineup and identified Baker as the man who entered her home and assaulted her, according to the affidavit.

First Assistant District Attorney Murff Bledsoe said Baker's two charges can be tried separately, but he was not certain how his charges will be tried.

Burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual assault is a first-degree felony, punishable by five to 99 years in prison. Sexual assault, a second-degree felony, is punished by two to 20 years.
