HARKER HEIGHTS — Rooms To Go, the newest furniture store along the U.S. Highway 190 corridor, is open for business.
The store was scheduled to open Saturday; however, store manager Leslie Pina said since they were getting so much attention from prospective customers asking when they were going to be open for business, the showroom opened Oct. 3, nine days ahead of its scheduled grand opening.
“We had our soft opening and decided to stay open because we didn’t want to turn people away,” Pina said. “Since we finished ahead of schedule, we didn’t want them to have to wait any longer.”
With 150 stores nationwide, Rooms To Go is one of the largest furniture retailers in the country.
The Harker Heights location is the 46th store in Texas and the first in the Fort Hood region. The 40,000-square-foot showroom broke ground in January and is Harker Heights second largest furniture store after Furniture Row. The new store has 35 employees and features more than 150 room arrangements.
Founded in 1991 by Jeffrey Seaman, Rooms To Go “is not your typical furniture store,” said Warren Kornblum, chief strategic officer for the furniture chain.
“Our stores are designed as showrooms where furniture is displayed in decorator-inspired room groupings,” Kornblum said. “We are further known for offering the consumer great financing options and fast delivery because more than 90 percent of our inventory is in stock.”
John Powers, a Killeen resident, was surprised with the store’s large selection of children’s furniture and their prices.
“When I was a kid, I didn’t have nearly as many options,” he said. “I’m glad I didn’t bring our daughter with us because she would want everything in here, and for the quality, the prices are a lot better than I thought. I figured the prices would be double what they are.”
The Harker Heights showroom also features an attached Rooms To Go Kids showroom, which features theme furniture from Disney to the NFL and college sports.
Joshua and Debora Yearwood just moved into a new apartment in Belton and decided to start their search for a couch at Rooms To Go.
“I love the layout and how open it is in here,” Debora Yearwood said. “You don’t feel like you are tripping over things to see everything like you do at other furniture stores.”
Pina said the spacious showroom allows customers to see things spaced out accurately and not all crammed together.
“We are thrilled to be opening in Harker Heights. It provides us with the opportunity to bring the very best of Rooms To Go to this community,” she said. “We want to make furniture shopping easy and convenient for our guests.”

Grand opening festivities will kick off Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. at Rooms To Go, 190 E. Texas Central Expressway in Harker Heights.
To show its support for the local community, the store will donate a portion of the showroom’s opening sales to the Military Child Education Coalition in Harker Heights.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
