Texas A&M University-Central Texas invited a group of soon-to-graduate students to a graduation fair Tuesday afternoon at its inaugural campus in Killeen.

The event, held at the university’s Founder’s Hall, allowed the students, who will graduate in December, the chance to order their caps and gowns, class rings and get more information about the ceremony itself.

“It’s sort of a one-stop shop for our fall graduates,” said Mashaundra Steele, the university’s graduation evaluator. “We want them to start thinking about commencement now, so they can make sure they have everything in order.”

The university holds graduations in the fall, spring and summer of each year. Steele said the graduation fairs take place once a semester.

“I’m ready to graduate,” said Erica Cooper, a marketing student. “I am ready to get out there in the job market.”

Tuesday’s event wasn’t just about ordering caps and gowns. Representatives from the university’s student financial aid department were on hand to answer questions about post-graduation loan repayment. Also, representatives from the A&M-Central Texas career services department promoted an upcoming job fair to help students like Cooper find jobs and internships after graduation.

“We want to help them prepare for whatever comes after graduation,” Steele said.

Even after students graduate from the university, maintaining a connection with them is still important.

Karen Clos Becker and other representatives from the university’s newly formed alumni association were at the event, signing up members from the soon-to-be graduating class.

“We want them to come back, even after they are gone,” Becker said. “We want them to know that we embrace them and that they still have a home here.”

The A&M-Central Texas fall commencement ceremony will take place Dec. 13.
