HARKER HEIGHTS - The City Council conducted a workshop Tuesday to discuss topics on its upcoming agenda, including the possible creation of the city's first farmers market.

If approved, the Harker Heights Farmers Market would start in early June, and feature foods and products exclusively from Texas-based farmers and growers. Organizers plan to include homemade crafts from local artists and community vendors.

"We definitely want to keep it focused on homegrown, locally produced foods," said Heather Cox, activities coordinator with the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department.

The market would take place in the parking lot near the swimming pool in Carl Levin Park.

Items also reviewed at the workshop included:

Presentations from the Public Works director to have the city's transfer site open an additional day, and an evaluation of the cost to purchase containers for the site.

Proposed changes to the city's current Thoroughfare Plan.

The council meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Kitty Young Council Chambers in City Hall, 305 Miller's Crossing.
