HARKER HEIGHTS — A 3½-hour standoff between a woman with a handgun threatening suicide and the Harker Heights Police Department ended peacefully Tuesday, Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson Jr. said.

An acquaintance of the woman reported the suicide threat at 9:58 a.m., according to police.

“We had a walk-in come to the police department with concerns about a female wanting to commit suicide,”

Wilson said. “He had made contact at her residence and she slammed the door in his face, so he came to the police department.”

The unidentified woman was thought to have left in her vehicle, so a bulletin with the license-plate number was dispatched to patrol officers.

Within minutes, officers stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of Warriors Path. Nolanville Police Department officers assisted at the scene.

“She produced a handgun and threatened suicide on the spot,” Wilson said. “A negotiator responded to the call and talked her down.”

The standoff ended at 1:21 p.m.

The woman, who had no driver’s license or other means of identification, was taken to the Heights police station.

Further details were unavailable late Tuesday.
