FORT HOOD — A hearing to determine whether a Fort Hood soldier should stand trial on a charge of premeditated murder in connection with a September homicide on post has been placed on hold.

Defense attorneys for Sgt. Brett Marvin Wessel argued they needed to see test results from a blood draw in order to proceed in Wessel's Article 32 hearing. Wessel is charged with the Sept. 1 shooting death of retired Sgt. Ryan F. Dickinson on West Fort Hood.

Wessel's government-appointed attorneys appear to intend to argue that Wessel could not have premeditated Dickinson's homicide because he was intoxicated.

Maj. Greg McLean, who is overseeing the Article 32 investigation, recessed the hearing until Wessel's defense gets access to Wessel's blood alcohol content test. McLean said the hearing will reconvene two days after those results are provided.
