HARKER HEIGHTS — In light of the current shuffling of positions on the City Council, council members voted Tuesday to name Hal Schiffman as the new mayor pro tem for the next three months.

Former Mayor Pro Tem Rob Robinson became the mayor after Mike Aycock resigned Feb. 1 because he was unable to fully discharge the city’s portion of his home property tax obligations before a Jan. 31 deadline, which disqualifies him from holding office, according to the city charter.

Schiffman will carry on the duties as mayor pro tem, acting as mayor when the mayor is absent, until the May 10 election. At the first meeting following the election, the council will elect a mayor pro tem to serve a one-year term.
