HARKER HEIGHTS — Police are looking for a suspect who robbed a drug store Monday night.

About 11:10 p.m. Monday, an unknown subject walked into Walgreens, in the 400 block of East Farm-to-Market 2410, produced a black handgun and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the store, a news release stated. No one was injured. The suspect fled on foot wearing a white mask, a dark-colored long-sleeved shirt, khakis, dark sunglasses and gloves.

Because the suspect was heavily clothed, police do not have a description of gender, race or other characteristics, said Sgt. Roosevelt Wilson, Harker Heights Police Department spokesman.

The last reported armed robbery in Heights was May 16, when a masked, gloved suspect wearing a jumpsuit used a handgun to steal almost $800 from Black Meg 43 in the 500 block of East Central Texas Expressway.

Wilson declined to speculate about a possible connection between the robberies as both investigations continue.

Armed robberies are rare in Harker Heights, which averages fewer than five every year, Wilson said.

More criminals are using masks to avoid detection, he said.

“They’re getting a little smarter,” Wilson said. “The masks were usually bought … for motorcycle riders to protect their faces. But as you can see, people have found another way to use them.”

Walgreens employees could not be reached for comment.
