A high-speed chase near Florence led to the death of a 32-year-old Killeen man.

Joshua Brent Mickler died while attempting to flee Texas State Troopers on State Highway 195 Sunday night.

Senior Trooper Harpin Myers said a trooper attempted to stop Mickler in Bell County after he clocked him speeding.

Mickler did not pull over and instead sped up to speeds faster than 100 mph while officers chased him southbound on SH 195.

About 15 miles south of Florence, Mickler drove his motorcycle off the roadway. He crashed into trees and a fence near Beaver Lane, Myers said.

Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

“You don’t run from police,” Myers said. “You end up in jail or in a crash.”

Mickler was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Myers said.

Mickler was a member of the Destiny World Outreach Center in Killeen, where services are being held for him today.
