What: Hispanic Heritage Month reception

The Killeen City Council meets at 5 p.m. today at City Call.
It is expected to vote on several important issues, including several land use public hearings and the proposed hiring of a new assistant city manager.
Pending approval from the council, the city will appoint current airport manager John Sutton to the assistant city manager position, according to the council’s agenda,
The position was previously held by Glenn Morrison before Morrison was promoted to city manager in May.
Sutton started working for the city of Killeen in 2001 and was promoted to director of aviation for the city in 2005.

Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, encompasses the independence day of seven countries in Latin America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.
At 4 p.m. today, Killeen Mayor Dan Corbin will host a reception for all Hispanic heritages and present a proclamation to members of the local chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens.
