HARKER HEIGHTS – The city has already scheduled the runoff election between Spencer Smith and Steve Hoskins for June 2.
The runoff election leaves City Councilman Bobby Hoxworth in the Place 5 seat for another three weeks.
It also gives the candidates another three weeks of campaigning.
Smith finished ahead of Hoskins by 184 votes, which may give him an advantage in the runoff election, according to the unofficial count on Saturday.
Even with that lead, Smith is not gong to stop his efforts to sit on the City Council, he said.
"I will just have to redouble my efforts to get people to vote," Smith said.
He is planning on "reconnecting with the center of his campaign" and working hard to make sure that his supporters come out to the polls once again, he said.
Hoskins declined to comment until the official voting results are announced Tuesday.
Should a runoff still be necessary after the totals are verified, the dates and times for early voting will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29. On May 26, voting will be held between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Early voting will take place in the administration offices at City Hall, 305 Miller's Crossing.
Regular voting for the runoff will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 2 at the Harker Heights Recreation Center, 307 Miller's Crossing.
