Copperas Cove police detained a 16-year-old boy Wednesday, accused of burning a school bus and then assaulting another student linked to the fire.

The boy is suspected in a fire that caused an estimated $10,000 in damage to a Copperas Cove High School bus on Dec. 30, police spokesman Lt. Daniel Austin said.

The boy is also accused of threatening another CCHS student linked to the case. A windshield was shattered on a second bus, Austin said.

The boy could face charges of arson, criminal mischief over $500, retaliation and theft under $50. The boy was transported to the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire occurred during the school's winter break. The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 30. The buses were secured in an area and used for travel by athletic teams.

The case remains under investigation and more arrests could be made.
