KEMPNER - A former water district manager in Florence has been selected as the new general manager for the Kempner Water Supply Corporation.

Delores Goode, who is certified to operate groundwater production, starts Feb. 1, said Rick Abraham, the board's president. "She has some outstanding credentials and knowledge."

With 15 years of experience in the water distribution field, Goode holds a Class-A water license and an undergraduate degree in business administration. She recently served as the technical services manager, a program manager-type position, for the Chisholm Trail Special Utility District in Florence.

"I am very excited about it, and I am looking forward to working with everyone," said Goode, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years.

The board selected Goode from a field of 26 applicants to replace David Sneed, who retired Dec. 19. He was general manager for 10 years.

In other action, the board approved a contract for a chemical feed line at the water treatment plant for $74,000.

The feed will allow chemicals better access to water for treatment, said Perry Steger, an engineer with Steger & Bizzell Engineering that works for the water corporation.

Board members also awarded a $50,000 contract to Dunham Engineering to perform rehabilitation services on the Ivy Mountain Tank.

Jim Dunham, who attended the meeting, estimated any construction work on the tank would cost about $400,000, and the corporation would solicit bids after engineering work was completed.

Dunham said the tank the corporation purchased about five years ago from Central Texas Water Supply Corporation should last another 40 years, but it wasn't properly maintained.

The board also:

Awarded a contract for the replacement of a valve at U.S. Highway 190 and Farm-to-Market 3170 for $2,332.

Approved its 2010-11 fiscal year preliminary audit.

Approved portions of the corporation's investment policy.
