Police are asking for help in the wake of an early morning shooting that left one man dead.
A man with multiple gunshot wounds was found inside an apartment in the 3400 block of Barcelona Drive early Tuesday. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the 31-year-old victim dead at 2:22 a.m. and ordered an autopsy.
Carroll Smith, Killeen Police Department spokesperson, said the victim's name was withheld, pending the notification of his next of kin.
Killeen police responded to a report of shots fired and found the victim while clearing the apartment, according to preliminary police reports.
So far, the investigation indicates that an unknown person wearing dark clothing forced entry into the bedroom of the residence then several gunshots were heard. The suspect fled the area, police reported.
Smith said the victim was a tenant of the apartment where his body was found. Investigators believe the shooting is drug related, but Smith would not elaborate.
Smith would not say if any items were stolen from the apartment, or if illegal items were found inside.
There are currently no suspects in the shooting, she added.
Smith urged anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-8477, go to www.killeencrimestoppers.com or text KILLEEN along with the tip to 27463. All information is anonymous and confidential.
