A Killeen man’s body was pulled out of Belton Lake on Thursday evening hours after friends reported him missing.

Friends told the Bell County Sheriff’s Department they dropped Larry Dixon, 54, off at Sparta Valley Park about 9 a.m.

They reported him missing about 5 p.m. after they returned to pick him up found his fishing equipment and clothing but saw no sign of Dixon, a sheriff’s department news release stated.

Deputies searched the park while Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Wardens and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rangers searched the lake. Shortly after 8 p.m., officials said game wardens using sonar located the body.

The Morgan’s Point Resort Dive Team recovered the body, and Bell County Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield declared Dixon dead and ordered an autopsy.
