Killeen’s Water and Sewer Department will soon find itself in a new home following a nod from the Killeen City Council to purchase a larger facility.
The department outgrew its current location at 1901 Botanical Drive, Deputy City Attorney Scott Osburn said. All offices are occupied and warehouse space is being utilized. He said the current location also lacks a training room and lab, which the department needs to effectively operate.
The department’s new 1.25-acre location, at 805 W. Jasper Drive, includes an 8,750-square-foot warehouse, two adjacent buildings with a combined space of 2,460 square feet and ample parking.
Osburn said the move is necessary as the department “continues to grow.”
The city will purchase the building, formerly Elliot Electric, for $435,000, negotiated down from $466,000.
The department will develop the property over a three-year period with redevelopment including ensuring the facility has 10 offices, a training room, lab, meter shop and parking area.
The total cost of the purchase and redevelopment is estimated at $767,000, which was allotted in the city’s fiscal year 2014 budget.
