A woman was killed last night after getting hit by a train near 10th Street in Killeen.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the unidentified woman dead at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Killeen Police Department responded to the scene at about 11:43 p.m. Tuesday after a 911 caller reported the incident.

The responding officers located the woman’s body about 100 feet east of the 10th Street just on the south side of the railroad tracks, stated a release from the department.

KPD’s preliminary investigation revealed the train was traveling eastbound approaching 10th Street and the red lights were flashing and railroad crossing barriers were down. The woman then attempted to cross the tracks on foot from the north to the south when she tripped.

The train then collided with the female and dragged her for about 100 feet.

Police did not find the victim’s identification at the scene and as of 3:30 a.m. her identity was still unknown.

Police detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
