Killeen Volunteers Inc. discussed keeping the city free of litter at a June 25 meeting.
Board members were briefed on Keep Killeen Beautiful’s clean up event held June 29 along Avenue D.
“Keep Killeen Beautiful participates in the adopt-a-road program and that’s when groups are assigned sections of road to keep it clean at least four times a year at a minimum,” said Colen Wilson, president of KVI and chairperson of Keep Killeen Beautiful. “It’s a combination of board members, general members and the public, and we always welcome others to help.”
KVI’s Youth Advisory Commission helped with the clean up by patrolling the community and conducting a trash survey. The commission is comprised of Killeen school students.
“We help them out and have our own road to pick up trash every year,” said Emily Cumming, YAC president. “The reason we are doing this is so that we can help the community be more beautiful.”
The YAC will present survey results to the Killeen City Council
“It’s a requirement to keep our affiliation with Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful,” Wilson said.
The survey is one of about 100 projects and 10,000 community service hours the YAC executes every year.
