BELTON – A Killeen woman was sentenced Monday to spend four months in county jail for assaulting a police officer who was booking her.

Judge Martha Trudo of the 264th District Court sentenced Beverly Sue Curtis, 35, to 120 days with credit for 62 days served for resisting arrest from Officer Jonathan Rinehart with the Killeen Police Department, on Feb. 11.

Rinehart was patrolling near Root Street and Avenue C when he noticed Curtis walking on the street.

Curtis appeared intoxicated, according to the arrest affidavit. When Rinehart noticed her again the same evening, Curtis appeared further impaired, and he arrested her for public intoxication.

Curtis reportedly became belligerent once she arrived for booking at the Killeen City Jail. She drew her leg back and kicked Rinehart in the shin, according to the affidavit.

Rinehart reported the injury caused him pain and left a red, swollen area on his leg.
