Four candidates running for seats on the Killeen Independent School District Board of Trustees met for a political forum hosted by the Exchange Club of Killeen Monday afternoon.

Incumbent members Shelley Wells and Susan Jones, along with challengers Lan Carter and John Gilmore spoke briefly on their qualifications before taking questions from attendees and the press. Topics included the district’s budget priorities, funding and teacher longevity stipends.

The candidates also answered questions about their stances on a possible $330,000 expenditure to build two lockeroom additions to the Fort Hood Stadium Complex. Currently the project is on hold as the district must negotiate and agree to a lease with Fort Hood before any money can be spent on the project. Both Carter and Gilmore indicated they would not be in favor of spending the money, while Wells and Jones indicated they would be in favor of it, should the lease process pan out.

Candidates for city council seats in Killeen and Harker Heights also participated in the forum.
