LAMPASAS — The City Council agreed Tuesday to make a $5,630 donation to the Heart of Texas Defense Alliance.

Bill Parry, the alliance’s executive director, spoke to the council about the importance of increasing and strengthening Fort Hood’s sustainability with the likelihood of an additional $52 billion reduction in defense spending.

Parry said the program’s goals are to analyze local, state and national information regarding future plans that could potentially impact Fort Hood’s structure and functions.

Other action

In other business, City Manager Finley deGraffenried presented an update on the city’s public works projects.

“We know here in our report, the Hoffpauir (project bid) has been awarded and we’re waiting for insurance and bonding documents,” he said.

“The North Interceptor is substantially complete, and on the Sixth Street drainage project, I think any day now we’re supposed to get insurance and bonding information on that.”

To assist with preserving infrastructure improvements, the council approved $78,309 for a new crew truck for the Public Works Department and $6,158 to buy parts to repair the wastewater plant’s head-works system.

The council proclaimed Tuesday as Chief Tim Angermann Day in honor of the police chief’s 40 years of law enforcement service. Mayor Jerry Grayson presented Angermann with a plaque and a gift.
