LAMPASAS — About 45 percent of Lampasas students registered online last week for the upcoming school year, Assistant Superintendent Nancy Yeary told trustees Monday in an update on the school district’s preparations for the new school year.

“School’s not in session, but it is a busy, busy time,” she said. “Right now, we’re getting ready for our professional development on Aug. 19, 20 and 21, which is where we do a conference-style staff development that we always have great response to.

“Also, we are getting ready for our accountability rating to come out this Thursday.”

Chief Financial Officer Shane Jones told officials the transportation department is also busy finalizing routes and schedules for the new year while the maintenance staff works on several projects at school campuses.

“Hanna Springs Elementary projects are slightly behind due to summer school being held there, but 80 percent of our computer lab updates are almost complete,” Jones said.

Board members on Monday also heard from the district’s newly appointed head football coach and athletic director, Brian Emerson.

The LISD school board unanimously approved Emerson to lead the Badgers athletic program last spring.

“Continuity and stability is going to be very, very important,” he said.

“We have a program where a lot of young men and women want to be here and build a program that is consistently built by a stable staff.

By and large, I hope to bring you guys a staff that you’re going to be happy with, and the kids and parents are happy with — that’s my goal.”

LISD will conduct a public hearing Aug. 26 to set the tax rate and adopt the district’s budget for the upcoming school year.
