Local suicide prevention advocate Clarena Tobon is seen with U.S. Rep.Tim Murphy during the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention forum last month. Murphy is one of the supporters of the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, and one of many political representatives Tobon spoke with during her trip to Capitol Hill.

Fort Hood resident and co-founder of the Greater Fort Hood Area Survivors of Suicide Loss support group, Clarena Tobon, recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., where she and other advocates for suicide awareness and prevention “stormed the hill.”

Representatives from every state gathered at the end of June for the annual American Foundation for Suicide Prevention forum, where they visited lawmakers with hopes of drawing their attention to ways they can help in the fight against suicide.
