With the coming of the new year, babies started arriving at area hospitals.

The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood has bragging rights to the first birth of the year in the Killeen area. A boy was born at 2:29 a.m. to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Crystal Young and her husband, Demetrius Young Sr.

Demetrius Young Jr. weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and arrived a week before his due date of Jan. 8.

“He’s our big bundle of joy,” said Demetrius Young Sr.

The newborn’s older sister, Alexandria, 10, is excitedly waiting for her chance to meet her baby brother, according to Crystal Young.

At Seton Medical Center, Harker Heights, a girl was born at 11:56 a.m. to Nathan and Kinsey Bahr of Copperas Cove.

This is the couple’s second child, with 4-year-old Trahern Bahr waiting to show his sister lots of love.

“He already picked out some of her clothes and her playpen,” Nathan Bahr said. “He’s planning on calling her ‘Sissy.’”
