A national civil rights organization has passed a resolution to change the name of Fort Hood to honor an Army veteran from Texas who earned the Medal of Honor and five Purple Hearts during his service.

The national council for the League of United Latin American Citizens has approved a resolution started by the Laredo LULAC chapter to rename Fort Hood to honor retired Master Sgt. Roy Benavidez.
