COPPERAS COVE — Savannah Lewis, 16, of Copperas Cove has been battling cancer for a little over a year.

She was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that occurs in and around the bones. Savannah loves Christmastime, and her one big wish for Christmas was to see her home decorated for the holidays.

To help, Julie Moser and April Miller with the nonprofit organization Pink Warrior Angels, got in touch with the House Creek Community in Copperas Cove, and things took off from there.

Though the official decorating event wasn’t scheduled to begin until 4 p.m. Wednesday, volunteers were at the Lewis home early in the morning. Lowe’s sent a crew to do backyard and fence maintenance, and the local Disabled American Veterans group was there painting interior areas of the house in preparation of the interior holiday decorating later in the day. Throughout the morning, a steady stream of neighbors and friends checked in to see what was needed and could be done. “Savannah is a funny, funny girl, who is quick on her toes ... she deserves this,” Miller said.
