COPPERAS COVE — Community members are invited to attend a meeting Thursday evening to help determine the future of the Boys and Girls Club in Copperas Cove.
Representatives from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Texas, of which the Cove club is part, will discuss the issues beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Public Library, 501 S. Main St.
While the Boys and Girls Club has three locations in the Cove middle schools, a fourth location at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School will lose its lease on May 31.
The school will be undergoing renovations, which is the cause for the lease not being renewed.
A number of board members have recently resigned from the Cove’s Boys and Girls Club, according to Jon Charles, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Texas. In addition to trying to rebuild the board so the Cove locations can keep their 501(c)(3) designation, “We’re trying to see if we can get the community behind the club,” Charles said.
A second meeting will be held Feb. 26 at 6:30, also at the Copperas Cove Public Library.
