Thursday was the first deadline for campaign finance disclosure forms for candidates for May 6 city and area elections.
The forms outline contributions above $50 that candidates receive for campaigns from local donors and campaign expenditures.
Campaign finance has been a hot-button topic for Killeen City Council candidates after a series of Herald articles in March outlined financial ties between Councilmen Jim Kilpatrick and Juan Rivera to former Killeen Mayor Dan Corbin and local residential developer Bruce Whitis.
At election forums held over the last few months, some of the council candidates have stated they are either self-funding their campaigns or are not taking contributions from “special interest groups.”
The forms were not available Thursday.
The Herald will outline the financial disclosure forms for both the Killeen City Council and Killeen Independent School District in Saturday’s Herald.
The second filing deadline for campaign finance disclosure forms is April 28.
