BELTON — Officers are investigating the death of a man found floating in Lake Belton on Saturday morning.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office dispatched officers to Sparta Valley Park, 5155 Sparta Valley Park Road at about 8:02 a.m., said Maj. T.J. Cruz, Bell County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

A fisherman had called about seeing a dead man in the water.

Officers arriving on the scene found the man had a gunshot wound in the head, Cruz said. Justice of the Peace Ted Duffield, Precinct 1, pronounced the man dead at 8:25 a.m. and ordered an autopsy in Dallas.

The case is being treated as a death investigation, Cruz said, and more information should be available when the autopsy is completed.

Dead body found in a lake. Could this be reminiscent of The Wire with bodies hidden in abandoned homes? Who knows? Could be, could be not, but bodies are turning up in lakes. Whoever did this caper get 4 SHANKS on the SHANKEM scale of criminality.
