The annual Festival of Trees will benefit Central Texas College and Texas A&M University-Central Texas for the first time this year.
The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. W.S. Young Drive.
In previous years, the Armed Services YMCA organized the event, according to Karen Clos, A&M-Central Texas spokeswoman. This year, CTC and A&M-Central Texas stepped in, using the proceeds for their general scholarship funds.
A dinner of “walk-around” food will be served, Clos said. This will allow those in attendance to mingle and view the trees which will be decorated and include gifts.
“There will be a tree for ’tweens, a ladies’ tree and a gentlemen’s tree,” Clos said. Themed trees will also be on display, and part of the raffle that will award them to the winners.
The main tree will be auctioned during the festival, Clos said.
“There is no program,” Clos said. “It’s all about having fun.”
Clos estimates over 100 volunteers from A&M-Central Texas will be spending time to decorate the trees and prepare for the festival.
There will be a band, dancing and a candy buffet featuring 300 pounds of M&Ms, Hershey’s Kisses, toffee, caramel and other sweets.
Individual tickets are $85. Tables of 10 are available for $750.
Reservations can be made until Dec. 13 by calling 254-535-1794.
